Dragonbreath Dragsters set-up and play

Game setup – should take 5-10 minutes...need only a screwdriver (Phillips head).

  1. Set up tracks. The track with the flame on it is the beginning, and the one with the checkerboard is the end. Two plain black tracks go in the middle - in all, the 4 track lengths provide two 14' tracks. Connect the sections by pulling the rubber handles on each side of the track end over the connector nubs on the next track. Do this for both track sets - approx 2 feet apart.
  2. Place the pump boxes at the start of both tracks. There's a Velcro lip that connects the box front to the first track section. There are white velcro'd tubes inside both cars. Take them out of the cars and screw the caps onto the front pipe of the pump box, so that the white and Velcro tube juts out of the box, over the track flame graphics.
  3. Place the electronics at track ends. The sensor strips fit under each track end - the metal bar runs between two black underside parts, so that the sensors face into the small holes in the sides of the track. Ensure the wired ends are in the inside edge of the tracks.
  4. Connect the electronics. Hold the dragonface light box upside down, and connect the left track wired jack into the "Sensor L" hole on the box bottom, and the right track wired jack into the "Sensor R" hole. There's a small black box with a red button and a long wire - this is your starter button. Plug the jack from that into the "starter" hole. (The "Ext" hole is not used). When the jacks are in, the lights flash in start-up mode. (If they don't - open the box and ensure the batteries are in securely… roll in place if necessary until the lights go on. This step will be eliminated in our "final" units.)
  5. Place the cars on the tracks. The rear female openings on the back of each car slide onto the male pipe from the pump box. Now you're ready to play.

Game Play

Playing Dragonbreath Dragsters is easy...players pump pressure into air chambers, push stick shifts to make the cars go. The competition involves (a) how much pressure they can pump in a fixed period of time, which they can see on their pump box's pressure gauge, and (b) how fast they are to push their stick shifts, once the lights go green. Pumping takes 30 seconds; the race itself is done in 1-2 seconds.

Specific instructions:

  • Place cars on pump box pipes (Dragonbreath tubes)
  • 1 player stands behind each pump box, with hands on the pump handle.
  • Put stick shift on each box in the "pump" mode by pulling it back towards the player, as indicated by box-top decals (if it’s not on "pump", the air chamber remains open and no pressure builds)
  • The electronics tell players what to do (light codes are also printed on the top of pump boxes)
    • When the dragon face lights are off, press the start button. The lights cycle through startup mode in a few seconds, then pulse blue when ready.
    • To start a race, when lights are pulsing blue, press the start button, It beeps and solid blue lights come on… start pumping. Pumping lasts 15-20 seconds; during this time the blue lights blink and beeper beeps about every 5 seconds. Near the end of the pumping the blue lights flash for the final 5 seconds, and then the two red lights come on underneath them.
    • At red lights, both players stop pumping.
    • At yellow lights - they blink and beep 4 times - the players get ready and put their hands on the stick shifts.
    • At green lights – "GO!" – they push their stick shifts forward.
    • First car to cross the finish line (break the photoelectric sensor beam at track end) wins. The winner's green light blinks and plays "charge", while the loser's stays solid red.
    • After a brief time, if not used, the dragonface lights revert to pulsing blue - ready for the next race.
    • After 5 minutes of non-use, the unit turns itself off
    • To reset, or re-start the electronics, press the red button and hold it for 5 seconds. The unit recycles itself, and lights return to "ready" pulsing blue.
